Mitt’s 'Foul Play' Accusations Mount

The GOP contenders of the presumptive favorite are swinging for the fences. In the latest bid to oust the frontrunner, the candidates have a united message against the Romney tactics toward buying the election. All three challengers have implied foul play from the Romney camp.

The topic was initially raised long ago during the Iowa Caucus. Newt Gingrich was asked if he believed Mitt Romney was trying to “buy the election?” Newt reinforced the phrase he had been touting to the press by adding, “Well, three and a half million dollars of negative ads, you tell me?”

Gingrich revisited the topic once again in the infamous Florida debate. On this occasion, Newt claimed foul accusing his opponent of loading the audience debate crowd with Romney supporters. Shortly thereafter, the Romney camp admittedly claimed credit for doing just that. The Romney tactic seems to have been a game changer; fore Newt hasn’t been a factor since.

Rick Santorum then picked up the ball implying Romney rigged the CPAC results. Santorum wouldn’t commit to outright stating he believed the fix was in, but did explain the modus operandi used by Ron Paul in previous years. According to Santorum, Ron Paul bused in supporters and paid for their tickets, thereby eliciting or buying the votes.

The Maine Caucus came under scrutiny when Romney was declared the winner with only 84% of the precincts factored into the results. With 16% of the precincts not counted, the Ron Paul camp raised objections claiming the results were rigged.

With less than a 200 vote margin of victory, the contention is based on the Paul stronghold of Washington County which was cancelled due to a snowstorm. The Paul camp points out the snowstorm amounted to nothing more than a dusting.

Ron Paul campaign Manager sent an email to supporters explaining the circumstances. “…nothing more than a dusting- was enough for a local GOP official to postpone the caucuses just so the results would not be posted tonight…The Girl Scouts had an event today in Washington County that wasn’t cancelled! And just the votes in Washington County would have been enough to put us over the top. This is an Outrage.”
