Halftime in America
58
The 24 hour news cycle is exhausting. Once every year, it has been the practice of American’s to spend a moment in time to revel in the extravaganza of American tradition; The Super Bowl. A 30 second ad went for $3.5 million dollars. The one which made the greatest impact was delivered by none other than Clint Eastwood. It’s what American’s are talking about, and it’s what American’s should be talking about.
This is the ad that gave me pause, the ad that ‘harshed’ my wine buzz. In a world where American’s are the 1%, if we don’t lead through principled values, the 99% will not follow. Although each and every ad was entertaining and /or effective, the image of the GI’s watching this spectacle in Afghanistan flashed in my mind. Fore they are the 1% of Americans whom chooses, through very little choice of their own, to take a principled stand.
The age of the 24 hour news cycle is overwhelming. What we choose to care about takes deep inner soul searching. The powers that be will do everything in their power to manipulate this exploration for sovereign thought. Indeed, it is halftime in America. We still have the right to vote, for those whom express the values most closely associated with our own.
We should treasure those values, we should embrace those values, and we should not take that for granted, the right to express those values. Many of our fellow humans throughout the world are literally fighting for their lives for that very right to express that particular value.
We as American’s are privileged in that respect. If and when we lose sight of that perspective we lose, we lose the essence of what makes us the greatest democracy the world has ever known, and shall ever know. We lose in the only argument democracy has, the will of the people shall stand firm against the will of the powerful.
It is indeed halftime in America.
Both teams are strategizing on how to win the big game. The fact of the matter is you cannot win without a viable plan. I would suggest to you my fellow Americans to take the time to do some deep soul searching regarding this very matter; and if you tend to agree with this message going forward, that sometimes it feels like it’s you and me against the world, I most likely have a tendency to agree.

WINS News Radio, You give us 22 minutes, we will give you the world" My old. man always listens to that or the country station.
Good hub, Clint was the best. I cannot believe though there are those on both sides of the aisle trying to turn this commercial into a political ad. I vote that Clint go to Washington and kick all their collective asses including all the Presidential nominees.
Thanks for the reply!
Let me try and discover the points you don't agree with me, since you didn't point them out to me too clearly.
You say: "We as American’s are privileged ...."
You are hardly talking for all of us South, Central and North Americans, are you?
Even North America belongs to a few large countries! Ever heard about Mexico and the second largest country on earth, Canada?
Some US car makers have plants all over the place, even in China ... now here is a place you may like to visit!
If you are talking about the rich and mighty top 1% in the US being privileged, there is no question what so ever ... but you are not one of them and pretending that you have a big stake in this place is a clear sign your wishful thinking, along with your blinders are still firmly in place ... :)
The US has become a country run by the rich for the rich and you either have to sell out your humanity like Obama did, or you end up like JFK - that's what the US has become ... and even Eisenhower warned the world about it in his time!
Face it, it's become a country where working people live but only money really matters. It's occupied and run by multinationals pulling on your patriotic instinct to buy a new car of their make and you think it's still a democracy just because another mega million bucks celebrity flashes past your TV, when it's really all part of the same soap opera you have become conditioned to long ago ... :)
Take a brake, go on a trip to Spain or visit Australia ... become a citizen of the world and stop falling for mass manipulation of any kind - especially when it's being sold under the cover of nationalism!

Clints video is no longer available, but interesting hub anyway.
Good hub ... but when the rest of the world hears of the fact that a serious discourse among thinking people has to get started with an ad by a US car maker at a mindless pro sport event, it only reminds us of the night mare called "The American Dream" and how all the other nationalistic propaganda has polluted your minds to become an intellectually insular bunch not able to apply the metric system, speak another language or see a common humanity among all working people versus the establishment, banksters and political prostitutes of this world.
It's not 1/2 but high time for you guys to join the rest of the world were shit, like "What's good for GM is good for America" never had a chance to be taken seriously!

gifalcone, great hub! I loved Clint and the ad, and I am totally female.
"Halftime in America"-- what a great metaphor. It feels like we're in some kind of pause, waiting to see which way we go. I didn't watch the Superbowl, but I did hear some "radio host" complaining that Clint wasn't funny. How dare Clint interrupt our circus!
Great Job. I'm glad you brought this up. I usually commute between 30 and 60 miles each way so the traffic and weather on news radio are helpful. For the ride sometimes it is 880 CBS news out of NYC. The broadcasters had a part time broadcaster in on the spot discussing the superbowl commercials. The discussion turned to the Chrysler commercial with Clint Eastwood, my favorite for a variety of reasons. The commentator stated that this commercial "Creeped him out and he had a nightmare". I am going to let my blue collar side loose. THAT BITCH! I would be embarrased to even know this person(Announcer). Is this why America is so screwed up? Is this the opinion of white collar America? Hard work, sweat and american pride is creepy? Is this the feminine side of the metrosexual showing. Forget Mitt,Newt or Obama. My vote is for Clint. This is what America needs ,a renewed sense of patriotism,a unifying voice, buy and support America. We are at a crucial point and we need to pull this off. Manufacturing and blue collar pride built this country and that's how we will need to fix it. Just look at us now and how the the shirt and tie crowd f-ed it up. I know this wont apply to everyone but this guy made me sick.
